Halloween is Friday, and in my true procrastinator fashion I have not gotten my costume yet. There were a few ideas I threw around but luckily, I've nailed it down to 3 options, depending on what I can find out there.
My first choice would be Betty Draper from Mad Men*. Let's face it, she beautiful, lady like and a little crazy...PERFECT. Being a brunette, I thought my biggest issue would be finding the perfect blond wig.
However, after searching around some costumes stores today, I can say that I was more than disappointed. It seems as though EVERY costume is slutty. Apparently you can make anything into a slutty Halloween costume- even the chick from Harry Potter.
Look, I've had my fair share of less than lady like Halloween costumes- slutty school girl, sexy detective, sultry sailor- but I think it is getting to be a bit oversexed.
Case in Point- on the TODAY show this morning, they had a segment about how even the costumes for younger girls are getting more and more risque. Seriously? If you want to see a six year old in a french maid's costume, then you have got some big big issues...
So now that Halloween is the resident Annual 'I can dress slutty and get away with it' Holiday what happens to those of us who do not want to be a sexy _insert costume here_? If I am not interested in being a slutty nurse, or slutty pirate, or sexy gangster, or slutty Alice in wonderland, and would rather hearken back to the days of petticoats and pearls and full skirts, then where do I go for a costume?
*The runner's up are the Flashdance girl because it would be really easy and Sarah Palin.
